Three years after finishing the residential portion of my doctorate at Yale, I am heading back to Sprague Hall for to give my final recital (and take a big oral exam!). I've decided to go an unusual route and program an entire show for solo violin. Using the four movements of Bach's A minor Sonata as pillars, the program is an odyssey through every part of the solo repertoire. Performed half on modern and half on baroque violin, the show features Bach, Kurtag, Xenakis, Pisendel, Visalmayr, Ysaÿe, Sciarrino, Kander, and some Chieftains. If all goes well, they'll make me a doctor.
